Reliability Availability Maintainability (RAM) refers to three related characteristics of operational support. Reliability is the probability that an item will perform a required function under stated conditions for a specified period of time. Availability is the ratio of the actual product produced against the potential production over the system life. Maintainability is the probability that a given maintenance action, for an item under stated conditions of use, can be carried out within a given time.
The benefits of Reliability Availability Maintainability (RAM) assessment include:
1. Prediction of the production system’s performance;
2. Identification of critical losses to trigger design improvements
3. Identification of malfunctioning equipment; and
4. Prediction of equipment lifecycle cost.
